Why I'm interested in Japanese castles

I love history, and have always loved castles, forts and walled cities. In fact, I lived in the old walled city in Chiang Mai Thailand for 2 years when I was younger. I've visited castles elsewhere in the world, but I ended up living in Japan, so I've focused my attention on Japanese castles. I also love temples, but having been to hundreds, I find that it's harder for me to get tired of castles.

My Favorite Castles

My top 10 Japanese castles are probably Himeji, Hikone, Iyo-Matsuyama, Matsumoto, Nijo, Kumamoto, Kochi, Osaka, Matsue, and Kanazawa. I also have a soft spot for castles like Ozu or Kakegawa. As for castles abroad, Bodrum Castle in Turkey and Rhodes Castle in Greece are great.

Favorite Area of Japan

For castles, probably Kansai because I live there and have been to more castles there than anywhere else. But Chubu, Chukoku, and Shigoku are all great for castles.
