Yamada Shigetada Yakata

From Jcastle.info

Here a yakata (fortified manor house) site is associated with the historic figure of Yamada Shigetada, but of this nothing remains. There are markers but the site is now a child hive / nursery. I passed by incidentally after missing a train and going to another station.

History

Yamada Shigetada fought in the Jōkyū War of 1221 between the Retired Emperor Go'Toba and the Hōjō Regency. Yamada, initially based in Kyōto where he had been close to Go'Toba, was granted territory in Owari by Minamoto Yoritomo when the latter established the Kamakura Shogunate. Yamada fought for the retired emperor in the Jōkyū War. Disaster came when he encamped upon the Kuise River in Mino Province and was assaulted by a larger force from Musashi Province. Overwhelmed, he retreated to Kyōto where he would soon be surrounded by enemies and forced to commit seppuku.
