History

Yamajijō was the fortified residence of the Yamaji Clan. Its lords included Yamaji Heibē and Yamaji Yozaēmon. They were vassals of the Rokkaku Clan. Yamaji is a village noted historically for its port, and so it probably bordered the Iba Inland Lake at that time, or used canals for access to it and Lake Biwa beyond.
