Hosenin is famous for the beautiful garden that can be enjoyed in any season. The ceiling of the engawa (porch) uses blood stained floorboards from Fushimi Castle.  This "blood ceiling" (血天井) is intended as a memorial to the Tokugawa allies who took their lives. According to the guide, Jikkoin had close relations with Tokugawa which is why they took some of the floorboards to honor the dead.
