Matsugashima Castle - Relocated Structures

Matsuǵashimajō: Relocated Uramon (Matsusaka, Mie)　松ヶ島城裏門［三重県松阪市］ The main gate of the temple Ryūsenji in downtown Matsusaka is said to have been relocated from Matsugashima Castle. This would presumably date it to around 1580 when that castle was built, as it was abandoned shortly after in 1588.

The main gate of the temple Ryūsenji in downtown Matsusaka is said to have been relocated from Matsugashima Castle. This would presumably date it to around 1580 when that castle was built, as it was abandoned shortly after in 1588. This yakuimon-type gate is said to have been used as a rear gate at Matsugashima Castle, and possibly Matsusaka Castle at one point too, but details are scarce. Nonetheless, the imposing gate, complete with shachihoko roof ornamentation, is considered the oldest wooden structure in Matsusaka Municipality, and is designated as a prefectural cultural asset.

A palatial hall used originally at Matsugashima Castle is said to survive at a temple in downtown Matsusaka called Keishōji. The hall is six by nine ken in dimensions, and has a hip-and-gable roof structure. A carving on the oniita (a board behind the demon-faced ridge-end roof tile) is dated 1629, suggesting this may be when the hall was built, though Matsuǵashimajō was abandoned in 1588. Does this date refer instead to when the hall was relocated? My assumption was that the hall was transferred to the castle-town of Matsusaka Castle after Matsugashima Castle was decommissioned, but details are scant.
