Field Notes
Hadanashiyamajō is a yamajiro (mountaintop castle) ruin in Hadanashi Township, Okazaki Municipality. Ruins consist of baileys and trenches sculpted from the hilltop. There are two integral baileys separated by a trench system. There is evidence of a trench to the rear of the site which would've protected from the direction of the ridge. The main bailey is ensconced by spiral-like tiers of koshikuruwa (terraced baileys).
The castle-mount can be accessed from a path opposite the cemetery. The trail goes past abandoned rice paddies which have returned to nature. There is a strange, square pit formed from berms and some stone-piled retaining walls near the start of the trail. The pit is the size of a small room and has an entrance area with stone walls. I thought it might be a storage pit or a pen for an animal.
