Relocated Gates from Kakegawa Castle
These pictures show three relocated gates from Kakegawajō. The first shown is the largest. It is a yaguramon (turret-gate / gatehouse), serving as the Yusanji's sanmon (main gate), is relocated from Kakegawa Castle where it served as the ôteninomarumon (main gate to the second bailey). It dates to 1659 and is a listed important cultural property. Interestingly it looks like the lower portions were once painted red but it has not been repainted for some time.
Yusanji is a temple located to the northwest of Kakegawa in Fukuroi Municipality. The yaguramon was relocated there in 1873. In 1923 the ceramic rooftiles were replaced with copper shingles, but the gate was restored to its original appearance in 1970. At least one original shachihoko (tiger-fish roof ornament) from the gatehouse is also kept at the temple (it is displayed in the priests' quarters but I was not able to see it).
Next is a smaller gate now found at Ryūunji, a temple in the southeast of Kakegawa Municipality, and serves as the temple's uramon (rear gate). It seems data on this gate is limited.
Lastly is the Fukinomon at Enmanji, which was relocated in 1873. This one is close to Kakegawajō itself in downtown Kakegawa so can be visited together with the castle.
