Shimozato Castle (Omi)
All I could see was a bamboo thicket which appeared to be on private property so I moved swiftly on from Shimozatojō, but local castle bloggers describe dorui (earthen rampart) remains located behind various homes. The site is now a village, temple and fields.
History
Shimozatojō, also known as Oshidatejō, was built in the Nanbokuchō Period or earlier, likely as a fortified residence of a powerful local clan, though it is not known which. The fort, built alongside the Gonotani River, is recorded in the Imaiki, where it is called Oshidatejō, as being caught up in a conflict along with neighbouring Kitabodaijijō (Kitabodaiji Castle (Omi)).
