- 11:54, 9 June 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Katsumoto Castle (Found a stray unnamed photo file but when I had a look at it I saw the signboard for Katsumoto Castle, so I've put it here (removed the car license plate).)
- 07:12, 8 June 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Odani Castle ('That's quite the journey I admire that "strain in your calves". I really should revisit this site now with more knowledge and more time than my first trip. How did you get to Odani Castle if no shuttle or rentacycle? Walk?' Eric, thank you. Both times i've walked. It only takes half an hour. Last time i mentioned the possibility of rental cycles from the station to my friend but she was happy to walk. I recommend doing the whole circuit up to Ohzuku and down via Fukuju and Yamazaki forts....)

- 20:35, 6 June 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Odani Castle (Some extras... Odanijō-Gessho-toride / Gessho-maru: Gessho-toride is a detached bailey of Odanijō proper, and a fort in the complex of fortifications which make up the expanded Odanijō complex. Whether it should be considered part of Odanijō proper or its own separate site is a matter of personal preference; to me it appears structurally to be an extension of Odanijō proper. Gessho-toride is also called Gessho-maru; 'maru' refers to a bailey of a castle. The ruins of Gessho-toride, situat...)
- 16:02, 5 June 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Amagasaki Castle (Amagasaki Castle is "Japan's newest castle", which is to say that it is the castle with the most recently reconstructed main keep. Unfortunately this castle tower, which had its grand opening back in March, 2019, is reconstructed out of concrete, and therefore a superficial reconstruction only. More recent tenshu reconstructions have been faithful to historical materials and building techniques, and so it's too bad that this "last castle of Heisei" is just another concrete museum from within....)

- 16:33, 31 May 2025 Matthew Ward talk contribs posted a new comment on Chiran Castle (The bukeyashiki district is really good! I did not, however, visit the apparently scant remains of the castle itself.)

- 08:55, 24 May 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Kuroi Castle (Tanba-Kuroijō is a mountaintop castle that has many kuruwa (baileys) and ishigaki (stone-piled rampart) segments. The climb is invigorating, and I marched up, bamboo stick in hand, with my bell jingling, the very picture of a healthy adventurer. At one point a young athlete ran straight past me. Well, running isn't for everyone! It takes between twenty to forty minutes to hike up, depending on one's ability, and proper footwear is strongly advised. The ruins and views at the top are worth it....)
- 07:59, 24 May 2025 Eric talk contribs posted a new comment on Samurai Residences (For this website I use residence to refer to the entire site including gates, warehouses, gardens etc. The house is one part. What was the place you visited in Osaka? It does not sound like any I'm familiar with.)
- 13:50, 23 May 2025 180.150.39.106 talk posted a new comment on Taga Castle (I visited Taga Castle Ruins in April 2025, the 100 meijô stamp is no longer at the station, but can be found at the Taga Castle Ruins Management Office, which is located not far from the remains of the goverment office. There is also a sign at the station where the stamp used to be to be that provides directions for the new location.)
- 06:55, 21 May 2025 67.3.188.97 talk posted a new comment on Samurai Residences (I was in Osaka and was invited to visit a Samuri warriors house(?) It was on top of a hill that we had to climb a lot of steps to get to it, which meant that the house had a great shot of the sea. So my question is, and without any prior knowledge, are they called houses or what? . I do have some pictures of the climb and some interior pictures but i see that I can't download them)

- 01:03, 23 April 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Tatsuno Castle (Changed castle type from yamajiro to hirayamajiro. The hilltop site ('Tatsunoko Castle'?) could be a yamajiro by itself, but taken together most sources say Tatsuno Castle is a hirayamajiro.)
- 09:49, 20 April 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Uenoyama Castle (I already added this similarly named site: Uenoyama Castle (Chikuma). But this site, in Akashina Township, was also in historic Chikuma County. However, it is now part of Azumino Municipality, formerly Adzumi County.)
- 19:24, 10 April 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Shingu Castle (oh probably kites then. the brown ones that are all over the countryside. i'd never seen them behave like that before. now i'm suspicious of the rural ones too.)
- 16:16, 10 April 2025 Matthew Ward talk contribs posted a new comment on Iimori Castle (I went to this castle recently and quite enjoyed it. As mentioned below, it's really quite large. The main baileys are laid out on a very long north-south ridge, and as Raymond mentions below, there are sub-baileys on the side of the ridge. I definitely recommend the advice about getting maps, as I think that I would have missed a lot without them. That said, there are some places on the map that are currently inaccessible. I took the Shijonawate-Nozaki route, and that worked fine,...)
- 15:01, 10 April 2025 Matthew Ward talk contribs posted a new comment on Sumoto Castle (I finally went to Sumoto Castle the other day, and was very impressed. The stonework really is first-rate. If you treat it as a ruin, it's surely one of the best castle ruins in Japan. I think many people have the same experience: seeing pictures of the tenshu and thinking that it's an inauthentic castle, but the tenshu is really a very small, odd cherry on top of a big and rich cake. I saw several baileys, and am not sure of the names of all of them, but in addition to the Honmaru, th...)
- 07:24, 10 April 2025 Eric talk contribs posted a new comment on Shingu Castle (Are those falcons or kites (tonbi)? We have the same problem around Kamo River in Kyoto. We could be on the brink of a raptor revolution!)
- 02:55, 10 April 2025 2603:8000:3e41:e800:2071:b03d:48ad:4c17 talk posted a new comment on Miyao Castle (Being a Miyao, i find this very interesting! I had the pleasure of visiting this castle back in 2022 with my wife. just amazing!)
- 15:57, 9 April 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Shingu Castle (Fleshed out the notes section a little bit. A word of warning: Shingū's local falcon population has turned into a flock of urban pests. They now use their sharp talons to swoop down on unsuspecting tourists to snatch food out of their hands. I'd never seen anything like it. I lost a tart to one when I was lunching in the garden of the Xú Fú temple. The raptor had unseen sat and patiently watched me eat a citrus fruit, that not taking its fancy, but immediately went for the baked confection....)
- 10:38, 9 April 2025 ART talk contribs posted a new comment on Myoken Yashiki (A local castle blogger seems to have recently discovered a potential fortified mount area above this yashiki: https://blog.goo.ne.jp/shiro-rekishimeguri/e/2e8fb64a509e25610296524cfcc17a38 I may check it out.)
- 10:27, 3 April 2025 203.122.231.101 talk posted a new comment on Matsumae Castle (Add the defence features to it and it should also have some better pictures to it but over all it has good information and is a 3.5 out 5 :))
